DURATION : 2.5 to 3 hours (including night rituals)

PURPOSE : Celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna and invite divine love, joy, and protection into your home.

IDEAL TIMING : Janmashtami (Ashtami of Krishna Paksha in Bhadrapada month, usually Aug–Sep), midnight celebration recommended.

PREPARTION :

  • Decorate altar with flowers and peacock feathers
  • Place baby Krishna idol in a cradle
  • Fast during the day and break it post-midnight aarti


INVOLVES :

  • Krishna Abhishekam with milk, curd, honey, ghee
  • Recitation of Bhagavad Gita or Krishna Stotra
  • Bal Gopal puja and cradle ceremony
  • Bhajans, kirtan, and midnight aarti
  • Offering of panjiri, butter, and sweets
